Mike Shatzkin is founder & CEO of The Idea Logical Company. In his more than 40 years in publishing, he has played almost all the roles: bookstore clerk, author, agent, production director, sales and marketing director, and, for the past 30 years, consultant. His client list has included most of the major publishers in the United States and many outside the US, as well as a variety of publisher suppliers and trading partners, particularly in the new technology area.

Since co-organizing the first "Electronic Publishing and Rights" Conference in the early 1990s, Mike has been speaking and writing about digital change. Mike has spearheaded similar efforts with the Book Industry Study Group, organizing the last two Making Information Pay programs, one looking at the extent of experimentation and innovation in publishing and the other at shifting sales channels.

Michael Cairns

Michael Cairns is Managing Partner of Information Media Partners a business strategy consulting firm and he is currently serving as Entrepreneur in Residence at a start-up content business named Mywire.com. His career spans a wide range of publishing and information products, services and B2B categories and his years spent as a line-operating executive have largely been with brand name publishing companies such as Macmillan, Inc, Berlitz International and R.R. Bowker.

As President of information and database publisher R.R. Bowker, Cairns led all strategic planning activities and managed the launch 10 new internet products. At his direction, the company acquired six companies that further broadened the revenue base and accelerated revenues derived from the internet and services.

His work experience includes senior roles in the Entertainment, Media & Communications practice at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and he started his career at Macmillan, Inc after receiving an MBA from Georgetown University.

Michael Friedman is the founder and president of Michael Friedman Group, Inc. Mark Gompertz

Gompertz has been Executive Vice President Digital Publishing (Simon & Schuster) since March of 2009. He started his career soon after graduating summa cum laude from Boston University, at The Overlook Press in 1976, where he held a series of jobs over ten years, from Publicity Director to Editor-in-Chief to General Manager.

Under his helm, Overlook had its first national bestseller, A Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi, which went on to sell more than one million copies. After Overlook, Gompertz became Senior Editor at Crown Publishing, where he edited Steven Sondheim’s Into the Woods, and later became Publisher of Avon Trade Paperbacks.

In 1993, Gompertz moved to Simon and Schuster to become EVP, Publisher of the Touchstone and Fireside trade paperback imprints, where, in 2002, he had record sales growth. In 2007, he added the duties of overseeing Howard Publishers.
