Brian Napack is the President of Macmillan, a group of America’s leading book and educational publishing companies. Macmillan’s operations in the US include St. Martin’s Press, Farrar Strauss & Giroux, Henry Holt, Picador, Tor, Macmillan Audio, Bedford Freeman & Worth Publishers, i>clicker, and Hayden McNeil.
Mr. Napack believes that the key to Macmillan’s digital future is to continue doing what it has always done best – finding, nurturing, and publishing the work of great authors. Thus, his objective is to ensure Macmillan’s publishers are well-equipped to leverage new business models, new digital platforms, new marketing tools, and new distribution channels as they work to connect authors with their audiences.
Mr. Napack has spent the past 20 years building and managing companies across various segments of the digital and traditional media businesses. He has held senior positions at The Walt Disney Company, Simon & Schuster, and ThinkBox, where he was the founder and CEO. Prior to joining Macmillan, Mr. Napack was a Partner with leading strategy consulting firm L.E.K. Consulting, where he helped senior executives at leading media companies and private investors understand and exploit opportunities in the digital media economy.
Digital Book Piracy: It's Here. Let's Deal With It
Brian Napack, President of Macmillan, will deliver a call to arms for publishers to fight what Macmillan sees as a mortal threat: piracy in the ebook space. In a speech entitled "Digital Book Piracy: It's Here. Let's Deal with It", Napack will describe Macmillan's view of what each publisher can do and what the industry should do to fight a problem which, in his company's view, could threaten the underpinnings of publishing as a commercial enterprise.
