Raelene Gorlinsky
Ellora's Cave

Raelene Gorlinsky spent twenty-five years in the computer information communication profession, as technical writer, editor and manager. She started editing part-time for Ellora’s Cave because it was an interesting variation from her day job in a computer department. It was a lot more fun to work on “He caressed her body with his gaze” than “Key in the serial number and press Enter.” In January 2004, she moved to Ohio to take on the job of Managing Editor at Ellora’s Cave, allowing her to use her organizational, managerial, and editorial skills on a wide variety of projects. Her position is now Publisher, and she deal with over 400 authors, plan and manage our digital releases, handle contract negotiations and foreign translation and other subsidiary rights arrangements, still edit several authors of my own, and am enjoying this job more than any other in my life.

Ellora's Cave: A Case History of a Different Publishing Model

Raelene Gorlinsky will take part in a Q&A with Mike Shatzkin reviewing the history of a 10-year old "eBook first" publisher. In that conversation, Gorlinsky will describe Ellora's Cave's beginnings, publishing PDFs for romance readers and describe some of their very unusual practices, which include: print editions that are "held back" to let the eBook sell first; printing their own books in their warehouse "on demand"; paying royalty rates that would make conventional publishers squirm; and paying those royalties monthly in many cases.
