Getting on the Virtual Shelves: Untangling the eBook Supply Chain
Speakers: Neil De Young, Hachette Book Group; Peter Balis, John Wiley and Sons; Andrew Weinstein, Ingram Digital; Leslie Hulse, HarperCollins
Moderator: Mark Coker, Smashwords With the plethora of new devices (Kindle, Sony Reader, Plastic Logic, Cool-er Reader, and many others), new handheld platforms (Kindle, Stanza, ScrollMotion, Shortcovers, B&N Reader) and a retail supply chain just starting to work with a cross-platform standard called ePub, it is not simple to understand how to get your ebook on sale in as many places as possible. And merchandising your ebook -- getting the equivalent of the window or the eye-level shelf -- is another set of new challenges. This panel of publishers, a distributor or two, and a retailer will discuss the complex undertaking that is distribution of ebooks through an increasingly complex supply chain. Peter Balis is responsible for the sales, distribution and business development of digital content for Wiley. Additionally, he is the co-chair of the AAP’s Digital Issues Working Group. |
